Orijen Brand Dog Food Review:
Today we're reviewing the pet food product that we feed our girls. And that is the origin brand of dog food. But first, I'd like to tell you why we decided on this product from the hundreds that are available.
We are simply reviewing a product that we use and love, enjoy. The first thing that you'll notice is that origin vacuum seals their pet food. This ensures freshness which is important for this product since the origin doesn't use any preservatives. You'll also notice that the bag is resealable, which is great because it helps keep insects out once it's been opened and continues to keep your food fresh. Once you open the bag, you'll notice a strong smell. Again, this is due to the freshness of the food. So, it's not to be alarmed about the smell doesn't take over the room or anything. It's just a strong smell if you're near it. But really at the end of the day, this food is made for dogs and not humans. So, it shouldn't be appealing to us anyways, right?
The color of the kibble is brown. I have tried multiple origin products and all of them have the same brown color. This is actually a good thing because it means that the company doesn't use dyes in their food, dyes, or chemicals certain pet food companies use to make the food look appealing to the human eye since we're the ones making the purchase dyes have absolutely no nutritional value. It's really just a marketing ploy. The texture of this food is great. we've struggled in the past with kibble that was too big or too small, too hard versus too soft. If the food is too hard, our three dogs will just swallow the kibble hole. But with all the origin products that we've purchased so far, they have had absolutely no problems.
Advantages and Disadvantages:
1: We did find that the resealable bag was a bit hard to seal properly. But once we got the seal going it held and it didn't open back up.
2: A couple of other cons about the origin is the price and the availability. It's true what they say you get what you pay for. With origin, you're paying a premium for a premium grade quality food. The average price of a 15-pounds bag of origin is around 60 bucks. You could find that cheaper online, but you need to be careful because there are companies in China that are counterfeiting this product. You can find out more about that by going to the origins website.
At the end of the day, though, do you really want to put your pet's health at risk just in order to save a few dollars. Luckily for us, we have three dogs and a 15-pounds bag of food will last about a month and that's what they self-feeding.
The other con to origin is the availability origin is only sold in select locations but you may purchase on Amazon as well.
